It’s been a long time since I posted. The internet here at work started having some problems loading the LiveJournal site a few months ago, and it’s only recently that I’ve been able to get on it at all, though I still don’t have all the graphics.

It’s been an exciting few months here at Blue Mountain Arts. We’ve gotten some very talented new editors on our staff, and we’ve all been working hard on a couple neat new projects.

We got a lot of submissions in the last two weeks of October — actually more than twice as many as we got the first two weeks. It’s great. We love to get lots of submissions, so if you have anything for us, don’t hesitate to send it in!

Poetry Contest

Today I was told that in about a month, I'll be taking over the poetry contest, and in the meantime, I'll be helping out my compatriot who is currently assigned to it. So today I read all the winning poems we've ever had as well as all the finalists for the past two years (it was A LOT of poetry!). It was really interesting -- BMA usually shys away from really metaphorical poetry on their cards because often the general public isn't inclined to buy those types (hey, we're a business here), but the poetry contest doesn't. I really enjoyed reading some poetry that was more artistic than that which I usually get to read.

The contest runs pretty much constantly, with deadlines at the end of June and December. There are prizes for the first, second, and third place winners. If you're interested, check it out at www.sps.com/poetry/index.html.
